Sea World

Thursday night after work, Shannon, Adam and I jumped in the car and drove to San Antonio. We checked in at the Double Tree around midnight. Adam woke up when we parked and we took him up to the room . . . and I've never seen him so excited. Squealing, smiling, running back and forth from one wall to the next. Extremely excited.

We woke up the next day and went to Sea World for the day, and honestly, we had a blast.

Having a banana on the ride over.

Good banana

Not quite sure yet what's going on.

Outside the park.

Sea World

VERY exciting!

Ready to go in.

checking out the gift shop.
Adam loved the dolphins and loved the aquarium that held the sharks . . . not because there were sharks, but because he was able to run around inside. Well, "able" is not exactly the right word. He was desperate to see and touch everything so we went very quickly through the building.
I'm not quite sure what this face is all about. He was actually having a good time at the dolphin tank.

Dolphins!

gotta stay on your belly.

Relaxing and looking at the dolphins

You can't tell here, but he was like a spinning top. I think I threw my back out just trying to hold him for a picture.

Trying to get him interested the sharks.
After the dolphins and sharks we grabbed a drink and went over to the Sesame Street "Bay of Play" to see the splash pad and the sesame street characters show.

The extra long straw with the Sierra Mist was more fun at first.
Getting splashed is not that fun!

Then he discovered the tunnel and his spirits were raised.

Say What? Grover!?

What turned out to be the best part of the "Bay of Play"

The next few pictures are in sequence of Adam's perceived "escape" -- from what, I'm not sure, but he sure was hauling while Shannon tried to track him down. He must have seen something he wanted in the gift shop.

That's as far as he made it. He then got dad to give him an animal cracker, one of his new favorite snacks.

Hooray! Animal Cracker!
This was just the morning. After all of this fun, we had lunch. We were pleased to find a market that sold turkey sandwiches, grapes, strawberries, and fresh options (although we mused that it's much cheaper to get soda at Sea World than it is to get water... that's what it has come to). We gave Adam a turkey croissant sandwich, grapes and Cheetos. The Cheetos were not the favorite - he didn't even eat one - and he carried around his cup of grapes for about two hours after that.

Turkey and grapes win
After lunch we saw a show called Azul, which is like cirque du soleil in the water and involving beluga wales and dolphins. Adam was incredibly well behaved and watched the entire thing while snacking on his grapes.

Immediately following the show we went to see the sea lions, and Adam heard their barking and tried to imitate them. I actually caught it on video, although it translated better in person. I'll post it in a future entry. Adam was fading pretty fast at that point, so he took a nap for about an hour in his stroller.

After the sea lions and the nap, we caught the Shamu show, which, overall, was very good. It's amazing what those whales can do. However, it was crowded at that point, and HOT, and Adam was just about done with the whole thing. He flirted with the 19 year old girl in front of us by touching her back and trying to pull her pigtails (and although she was very patient, I put an end to it because I got tired of apologizing).

When Adam had had enough of sitting still, he got MAD and nearly broke my back trying to get away. The show was great, but just not enough to keep a tired, hot and cranky baby's attention. But we got a few pictures, and then when it was over, there was no question... it was time to leave.

But it was a great, fun day, and I would definitely go back.
