Texas State Fair

Shannon and I took Adam to the State Fair this week for a few hours. We know he's too young to really "do" anything, even the stuff specifically set up just for kids, but he enjoys people and seeing things, and we thought it might be a fun family thing to do.

So I brought our 6 canned food items (the Wednesday deal), Adam got in for free and Shannon and I got in for $2 a piece, and we parked in the $5 parking instead of the $15 parking (next to the choo choo... awesome).

There was a farm exhibit called "Little Hands on the Farm," which Adam was still under the age to really appreciate (feed the fake hens this corn, milk the fake cow and get some milk, sheer the fake sheep and get wool, ride the tricycle... I was mistaken in thinking it was a petting zoo). It was a really cute idea, and FREE, and the people were very nice . . . but we went through fast, told him to pet the cow, sat him on the tractor for some pictures (above), and moved on.

And we got to teach Adam that what you really do the Fair . . .

IS EAT.

Fried Cookie Dough...

Approved.

Foot long corn dogs...

I swear he ate half of it.

CAN'T GET ENOUGH.

Animal crackers... (from the Little Hands on the Farm exhibit).
Just to tide him over until the next snack.
And Funnel Cake Fries (just as tasty, and easier to eat)...
Oh yes...

That's the stuff.
He also had a whole serving of applesauce, which he inhaled so fast I wouldn't have been able to take a picture of even if I had wanted to. The fair makes a person hungry.

We let him get out and walk a little, but Adam does not follow. He is a wanderer. If he sees it, he wants to touch it. If there is a wire or a fence, he needs to cross it. So we took a few pictures next to the "Yellow!" . . .

... Then let him walk a few feet and climb (he got into this position all on his own) into the footsie wootsie massager for a few minutes and have a chat with the man sitting near him . . .

... and back into the stroller he went...

The face below was the calm before the sugar high hit him (in traffic) on the way home. He was practicing his voice volume levels (maximum volume being the one he was working on at that particular time). The giggles and screeches all the way home made it clear he had enjoyed himself. And then we all had an early bedtime.
Despite all of us coming home wind-blown and exhausted, we had a great time.
